Primary Care Provider

Already have a family doctor or nurse practitioner? Great! We encourage you to touch base with your provider if you’re comfortable. Not sure if your provider will prescribe PrEP? Ask! There can be a few reasons for why providers might not want to prescribe PrEP. They may not know about HIV and PrEP or they may not feel comfortable prescribing HIV medications. Hopefully they don’t say no, but if they are unable to provide this to you we recommend either visiting the Elevate NWO and Oak Medical Arts Clinic or if they know of another provider who does, ask for a referral.

If you do want to talk to your provider about HIV and PrEP but don’t know how or what questions to ask, thesexyouwant.ca offers a great script that you can use when talking to your provider about PrEP. You can even print off a copy and take it with you to your appointment! Click here for a copy.
